The City of Northlake is authorized by the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/15-301), at their discretion, upon application and good cause being shown therefore, to issue special permits authorized the applicant to operate or move a vehicle or combination of vehicles of a size or weight of vehicle or load exceeding the maximum specified in this Act or otherwise not in conformity with this Act upon any street under the jurisdiction of the City of Northlake.

Permit applications are reviewed for bridge tolerances, construction zones, height clearance and several other safety concerns.
