Looking towards 2100

It is hard to believe that we are already 25 years into the 21st century. It seems that we were just celebrating the turn of the century not that long ago.

What is also mind boggling is the thought that decisions we make today will have a far reaching effect to our community in the 22nd century. Things like water main replacement, infrastructure up grades and land use and development decisions will have a long lasting impact.

Just as the decisions and actions taken in 1950 still have an effect on Northlake in 2025. We must be thoughtful and deliberate in our decisions and actions in 2025 as they will surely still have an impact in 2100.

The City of Northlake is beginning 2025 on a positive note with major development taking place, major infrastructure improvements being undertaken and a strong financial footing, thanks in large part to the balance our community enjoys between residential, industrial and commercial property uses. I don’t know if our civic leaders in 1950 were thinking about 2025 when the community was in its formative stages, but those early land use decisions have certainly been beneficial to us in 2025.

I have often referred to a quote written by President Franklin Roosevelt on the day before he died. “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith.”

So in that vein, let us begin the work for 2025 as well as 2100.

I wish all of you a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
