WESTAF Major Crimes Unit and Major Crash Unit
WESTAF is a major crimes task force comprised of 23 law enforcement agencies that serve the Western suburbs of Chicago. This combination of resources and expertise allows police departments to investigate the most serious crimes within their community. In addition to the Investigations, the Major Crimes Unit also has their own Evidence Technicians/Forensic Investigators who respond to and process crime scenes. WESTAF also has a Major Traffic Crash Unit; this task force is responsible for responding to and investigating serious auto accidents.
Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS)
ILEAS meets the needs of law enforcement throughout the state of Illinois in matters of mutual aid, emergency response, and the combining of resources for public safety.
Illinois Tactical Officer Association
The Illinois Tactical Officer Association (ITOA) promotes and encourages educational activities and/or research related to the law enforcement field. This association provides an opportunity for tactical officers to gather to compare ideas and experiences. Through education and networking, high-risk operations requiring a tactical team would be made safer.
Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA)
CALEA stands for Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. It's a voluntary program that accredits law enforcement agencies that meet internationally recognized best practices.
West Suburban Special Response Team (SRT)
The West Suburban Special Response Team is a multijurisdictional S.W.A.T team comprised of seven law enforcement agencies that serve the Western suburbs of Chicago. The team has 30 active operators that include snipers, drone operators, hostage negotiators, and other specialties. The team responds to critical incidents such as active shooters, hostage situations, barricaded subjects, acts of terrorism, and high-risk search warrant executions.
West Suburban Chiefs of Police Association
The West Suburban Chiefs of Police Association (WSCOPA) was formed in 1960 as an organization of senior police executives representing the near West Suburbs of Chicago. Today the Association still promotes networking and training for their members and also serves to follow and promote legislation affecting the communities within the near west suburbs. Other members of the West Suburban Chiefs of Police Association include the Illinois State Police, Cook County Sheriff’s Police, and the FBI.
Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS)
The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) represents a joint venture of suburban municipal police departments in the Chicago metropolitan area to ensure effective police mutual aid in times of natural disasters. The system has grown to include law enforcement agencies of over 100 cities, villages, and towns in five counties.
Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP)
The ILACP is Illinois' Voice of Professional Law Enforcement. Established in 1941, ILACP represents more than 1,400 members working in over 450 agencies throughout the State. The ILACP promotes professionalism and personal development of its members through innovative services, training, and camaraderie to make a positive impact on the quality of life in the communities our members serve.
