What are the hours of operation for the police department’s Records Division?
The Records Division window is in the police department lobby. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
My vehicle was towed by the police department after an arrest, what do I need to do to get it back?
You would need to come to the station lobby and pay a $350 administrative tow fee. (Credit cards are accepted.) Once you pay the admin tow fee, you are given a vehicle release document which you need to submit to the towing agency whenever you go to pick up your vehicle. All fees charged by the towing agency (tow, storage, etc.) are separate from the admin tow fee you pay to the police department.
How do I submit a Freedom of Information request?
You can complete our online Freedom of Information (FOIA form) found on the Northlake Police Department website and submit it to us electronically or you can come into the police department and fill one out at the Records Division.
How do I pay a local ordinance citation I received?
You can click here or on the "Pay a Citation" button located on the main page of the police department website at which time you would enter your ticket data to pay it online. If you need assistance, you can come to the police department and the clerks in the Records Division will help you.
I received a local ordinance citation, but I would like to contest it. How can I do this?
You have the right to due process whenever you receive a ticket. In short, that means you can go before a judge/prosecutor to contest the citation in court. If you would like to do this, simply attend the hearing date listed on your citation. Your fine amount will not increase if you elect to attend the court hearing in lieu of paying the ticket.
How do I obtain a copy of a police report?
To obtain a copy of a police report, you must request it by completing and submitting a FOIA request online through our website or in person at our Records Division. Alternatively, you can request police reports in writing by sending an email with the specifics to our Records Division at [email protected].
How do I obtain a copy of a traffic accident report?
You can obtain a traffic accident report through LexisNexis BuyCrash online; their support line is 866-215-2771. You can also come to our Records Division in person and they will get it for you. The fee for obtaining traffic accident reports through our Records Division is $5.00. (If your particular crash required an accident reconstructionist expert to investigate/document the incident, the fee is $20.)
My dog got loose in Northlake and I cannot locate it. What should I do?
Call the non-emergency police department at (708)531-5755 to see if we may have picked up your dog. If not, we can take your information in case we do locate it. If we did pick up your dog already, there is a chance that we may still have it at the police department (if it was picked up within the past hour or so). Unclaimed dogs held at the police department are transported to the Animal League Care facility in Oak Park. The police department Dispatcher can provide you with additional information.
What should I do if I come in contact with a wild animal?
Call ABC Humane Wildlife at (847) 503-0696. Our Code Enforcement Officers are not trained to deal with wild animals.
What do I need to do to get an order of protection against someone?
Orders of protection are issued by the county, not a police department. However, when you request an order of protection, the county will typically require documentation pertaining to any and all incidents related to the reason for the order. If any prior incidents occurred in Northlake, you can obtain copies of police reports from our Records Division. We would then refer you to the Cook County Courthouse located at 1500 Maybrook Drive in Maywood.

Yes, the SRO is a certified full-time police officer with the Northlake Police Department. However, he is assigned to the high school on a full time basis.

Vehicles cannot be parked on the city streets between 2:00-6:00 AM unless they have registered their vehicle for overnight parking. This can be done through the police department website by clicking here.
Will the police department take my fingerprints for a job application or for a professional license?
Yes, but you need to provide the fingerprint card from your employer or professional affiliation. By law, we cannot take fingerprints for FOID applications. Contact the Illinois State Police for more information.
Does the city have a curfew?
Yes, it applies to all minors (those under 17 years old). They cannot be on the street between the hours of 11:00 PM – 6:00 AM beginning at 11:00 PM on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The curfew for Friday and Saturday is from 12:00 (midnight) – 6:00 AM.
Is there an ordinance that profits construction during certain hours?
Yes, construction hours are from 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, all days of the week.
